With a potential walkout looming, talks are continuing in the labor dispute at Portland Public Schools. The Oregonian reports negotiators for the district and its teachers lasted into Monday night, as proposals continued to be exchanged. If a tentative agreement is reached, the countdown toward a Thursday strike would stop, at least long enough for the school board and the Portland Association of Teachers to approve or reject it.

Meanwhile, strike preparations continue on both sides: The district has announced no outside groups (neighborhood meetings, recreational sports leagues) may use the schools Tuesday, to allow staff time to prepare for a strike. And, teachers began creating Facebook “strike pages,” and continued making signs for the picket line.
