OJP on PRP
Third Sunday of the month at 4pm
Because democracy depends on informed voters, and local news coverage is vanishing, we at PRP are lending our platform to share excellent journalism being produced by the Oregon Journalism Project. OJP is a nonprofit newsroom serving all of Oregon,
On our new OJP on PRP podcast (see what we did there?), you’ll hear from the best reporters investigating local news stories throughout the state. Keenly aware of the business-model disruptions and out-of-state ownership that have decimated local journalism, OJP has stepped up to fill a void. As OJP Founder and President Mark Zusman explains, advertising dollars that once supported local journalism have moved to platforms like Meta and Google, leaving “ghost newspapers” that no longer provide routine coverage of government meetings and decisions – developments that impact the lives of every Oregonian:
“More than a quarter of Oregon’s small-town newspapers have closed. Fully 68% of our state’s incorporated cities, and three entire counties, now lack a local news source.” – Mark Zusman, OJP Founder and President
You can read more about how OJP is informing citizens, safeguarding democracy, and giving communities a voice at oregonjournalismproject.org. We’re proud to join dozens of newspapers, radio and TV stations, and online publishers who partner with OJP to share their deeply reported watchdog journalism. Listen to PRP.fm the third Sunday of every month at 4:00 pm to hear OJP on PRP!
