EVOLVING DROP-IN SESSIONS
Occasional Fridays, 6 pm
We noticed that despite the remarkable diversity of songs in our rotation at PRP, musicians who contacted us to be featured on air in a “Drop-In Session” (broadcast performance and interview), were usually white, male-fronted bands. In order to shake that up, we created Evolving Drop-in Sessions in partnership with advisors representing diverse musical genres and communities (Jazz, Hip Hop, Soul, Neo-soul, R&B, Spokenword and more).
WOW! So much more culture, energy and aesthetics on the PRP airwaves now. Intentional outreach aimed at increasing our coverage of BIPOC, AAPI and LGBTQIA artists led to an increase of over 300% diverse artists in two years (from 13% to 55%) thanks to support from the Autzen and Collins foundations, the Multnomah County Cultural Coalition, The Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation, the Oregon Cultural Trust and RACC.
This platform continues to grow our connection with marginalized and underage (under 21) artists, provide spotlight and promote their work.
