Informal talks are underway between teachers and the Portland School district and school board members largely support the district.

According to a board resolution, limits on teacher workloads sought by the teacher’s union don’t belong in a labor contract. Union leaders worry that the board’s statement urging a timely contract agreement may hurry the declaration of an impasse. That could start the clock ticking toward the district implementing a contract or a teacher’s strike.
