Did your cell phone go off with a weird, unfamiliar signal over the weekend? Turns out it was the first time Portland used the federal Wireless Emergency Alert system. The system sent a special alert to all WEA-enabled cell phones in Multnomah County. The message read: “Portland strongly urges all residents to stay indoors today & not travel due to ice.”
Meanwhile, you can receive emergency alerts of all kinds – for buses, Max light rail, schools, shelters, and more – provided by the City of Portland.
