Tomorrow is the signature deadline for backers of an initiative to take the water bureau away from Portland City Council. Willamette Week reports the group Portland Public Water District will submit 50,000 signatures, well over the nearly 30,000 signature requirement. If the signatures are validated, voters will decide on it in the May elections. The initiative would give control over Portland’s water and sewer district to an independent board.
