We spent our Friday evening on Sounds of PDX chatting with James Powers – local jazz trombonist, composer, multi-band contributor and beverage enthusiast.

We were fortunate to catch James between gigs, with one of his MANY bands, and he dropped in to the PRP studio, treated us to a couple tunes – Worthy of Love (Crown Six) and A Dozen or So Belts (Frank Irwin Quintet) – and let us in on his newest project…

The James Powers Relativity Ensemble will be playing at the Montavilla Jazz Festival Sunday August 21 at Portland Metro Arts. The three day festival features an array of emerging and established local artists. Performances taking place at Portland Metro Arts will also be live streamed.

Take a listen to our Drop-In Session interview with James below (and you’ll understand our beverage reference above) and then check out the line-up at the 9th annual Montavilla Jazz Festival…you’re not gonna want to miss it…cheers!

This Drop-in Session was made possible in part by grants from the Oregon Cultural Trust and The Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation.
