It was a bit of a blast from the PRP past for our latest Drop-In Session on Sounds of PDX and the future is quite bright in our opinion.

Trumpeter, composer and bandleader Cyrus Nabipoor dropped by the PRP studio to discuss his latest musical project – Cyrus Nabipoor Quintet – as well as the upcoming recording of “In Lieu of Tears”, his debut studio album.

We were lucky enough to have Cyrus on the PRP airwaves with his radio show “Bridge City BAM (Black American Music)” so it was wonderful to reminisce a bit and take a few minutes to dive into what that show’s premise means to our understanding of the influence and homages due Black American musical artists.

Cyrus’ quintet will be playing at The 1905 on Sunday December 18 (7pm and 9pm shows) – grab your ticket here – and then jumping into the studio to record an album shaped on “processing grief & embracing vulnerability through songwriting.”

If you’d like to support the making of this album, check out their crowdfunding campaign – Indie GoGo fundraising campaign – we hear there is a donation incentive for a private concert which would be a GREAT holiday gift for a special someone (wink wink).

Take a listen to our interview below, head on over to The 1905 and then stay tuned for “In Lieu of Tears” landing in record stores in Fall of 2023.

This Drop-in Session was made possible in part by grants from the Oregon Cultural Trust and The Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation.
