For the first time in several months of negotiations, there’s a sign Portland may avoid a teachers strike. Just after 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, the Portland Association of Teachers posted this news on its Facebook page: “Your bargaining team has reached a conceptual agreement with the district! Given that the teams have been bargaining for 23 straight hours, we will come back together later today to iron out the details and put it in writing in the form of a Tentative Agreement.” Hundreds of people have shared the post.
If a tentative agreement is signed, the clock would stop ticking – at least temporarily – toward a Thursday strike.
UPDATE: Wednesday, Feb. 19: TENTATIVE AGREEMENT SIGNED, pending ratification. School will dismiss two hours early today, so both sides can regroup.
