NBC has been sending a University of Oregon grad to some of the real hotspots around the world. The result was Sunday night’s documentary entitled “Our Year of Extremes: Did Climate Change Just Hit Home?” It was reported by Ann Curry.

The program documented how the climate is changing – and impacts that are already being felt. It suggested, for example, that increased rainfall – related to climate change – contributed to the Oso landslide north of Seattle.

Scientists introduced a new theory in the documentary: that soot from a growing number of wildfires coats polar ice caps, warming them, and causing them to melt faster.
