“Fresh Vibe,” PRP’s new daytime programming, rolled out last fall, bringing listeners the latest in local and global indie music. With strong foundation from Jen Em, the host of “Fresh Spins with Jen Em,” our team set out to serve our listeners the latest in dream, electro, and indie pop, shoegaze, Neo soul, trip hop, electronica, and more.

Fresh Vibe is the soundtrack of Portland. Our local listeners have very sophisticated musical palates – evidence is everywhere – restaurants, book stores, coffee shops, galleries, etc. This town sounds good, and we want our program to be the extension of that. Our goal is to not only reflect what our local folks are listening to, but also provide inspiration and bring in new tunes to our unique city.

It’s important that the music we bring in provides diversity of sound, gender, and ethnic origin, with strong emphasis on emerging, independent, and local musicians. We recognize what is happening in music recently – artists stepping outside of traditionally defined genres, not conforming to expectations of musical styles. Cross pollination abounds, and that’s what Fresh Vibe is all about.

Some of the latest additions to the programming include selections from the local artist Y La Bamba, whose deeply personal album Mujeres deserves all the attention it receives. There are also tracks from Nilüfer Yanya, a London-based indie alt/pop prodigy, and Helado Negro, Ecuadorian-American electro/jazz pop artist. We can’t forget about our Portland-based electronica producer Emancipator, whose fresh off-the-press “Chameleon”, a collaboration with 9 Theory, has already been spinning on PRP. Other additions include Little People, a Swiss electro-whiz, playing in town this week, as well as Cleo Sol, Plastic Cactus, The Magic Gang, Elder Island, and many more.

The wealth of talent in our community, and the world, is overwhelming, but be assured that we are bringing the coolest selections to PRP! With new music added every week, we are committed to keeping our programming fresh.

Tune in to Fresh Vibe Monday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm. Here is a little preview:

Asia Wagner

Growing up in Poland, my musical taste formed in the early nineties with influences from bands like Everything but The Girl, Massive Attack, and Portishead, just to name a few. Playing piano did not stick, but attending frequent local events, and throwing rave parties in my dad’s warehouse did. While my thirst for new sounds greatly expanded my musical horizons, I have always been a beat lover at the core.

I curate music for Fresh Vibe and utilize my background in business to assist Portland Radio Project with revenue development.
