Whole Foods grocery stores have often been called Whole Paycheck because of high prices. But now Whole Foods is partnering with a Portland woman who brings affordable, nutritious food to what are called food deserts; parts of any city not served by grocery stores.
The My Street Grocery began a couple of years when some Portland State grads loaded up a truck and parked it in various needy neighborhoods.
Founder Amelia Pape is getting help from Whole Foods Markets, using a trolley she found in Texas and getting into more neighborhoods.
Legacy Health Group is helping out by providing low income clients with vouchers to buy good, healthy food.
