A ping-ponging pair of Portlanders, Michael and Eugene Jung, are hoping to propel their love of pips and paddles from a pop-up project to a permanent PDX ping-pong palace.
The brothers, who started an enterprise called Pips and Bounce in March 2013,recently launched a Kickstarter campaign in hopes of acquiring funding to properly place the required ping-pong accoutrements in a space at the Grand Central Building in Southeast Portland.
The Jung’s uniquely-named endeavor led PRP’s Jim McLaren and me to conduct some live on-air research about the word “pip.” You can discover the many meanings of “pip,” including the ping-pong definition, by listening to our discussion from July 30, 2014.
Until their permanent home is ready, Pips and Bounce will continue popping up around Portland. They will be setting up their tables at an August 9 fundraiser for the Children’s Healing Art Project. “Migrating Towards a Cure” will be held at Migration Brewing, 2828 NE Glisan Street.
