It passed us up four years ago, but now Google is considering Portland as one of nine cities for its next roll-out of high-speed fiber Internet service. The Oregonian reports nothing is for sure yet. The city would have to short track hundreds of permits in a short time frame, and Google would have to find routes for the network.
If the deal comes together, Portland and five suburbs would gain access to Internet speeds up to a hundred times the national average. Service would begin in 2015.
