The Slants dropped by Sounds of PDX for our latest Drop-In Session – they are releasing new music, their FINAL album, and celebrating with a show at Dante’s on October 14th. The last we visited with the guys, they had just wrapped up a years long Supreme Court battle to trademark their band name. Needless to say, we had much to catch up on…
While it may seem they’ve been dormant, with their last release being 2017’s The Band Who Must Not Be Named EP, that is SO not the case. Earlier this year they debuted their rock opera, Slanted: An American Rock Opera, via the New Works Collective program at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. Take a look at the stage magic they created on their YouTube channel.
The Slants Foundation continues to be a force dedicated to changing culture using arts and activism. The Foundation works to amplify underrepresented voices, especially those within the Asian American community and those addressing controversial and timely issues through a social justice lens.
And then there’s the final album…The Band Plays On is set for vinyl and digital release on October 20, 2023. Each of the 14 tracks features a guest performer, including a guest vocalist on almost every song. These guests are comprised of prominent, as well as up-and-coming, artists from the Asian American community. Pre-order your copy today!
We dive into all this AND MORE – including hearing a couple tracks from TBPO, “Family” and the title track – so take a listen ⬇️. And then grab your tickets for October 14th; you are not going to want to miss their album release show at Dante’s with guests Camp Crush and The Gentry.
This Drop-in Session was made possible in part by grants from the Oregon Cultural Trust, RACC and The Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation.
