While riding through downtown Portland this morning, we encountered an enthusiastic gathering of runners getting ready to start “Run Like Hell.” We stopped to take a few photos and watch the start of the race.
Twenty minutes later, the scantily clad participants were still shivering on the line and unable to begin due to a broken down train blocking Naito Way.
We hung out for a while, meeting Mr. Beefy, who was there to cheer on the runners.
Finally, we decided to head over and see what was happening on Naito Way. Apparently the train suffered a broken air hose and it was taking a while to get it fixed. As a result, participants in the half marathon had to come to a screeching halt with several miles left in their race. A number of the folks we talked to had been waiting more than 30 minutes in an effort to finish the run. Brrrrrr.
