He is the distinguished professor of education at the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies and faculty director for the Center for the Transformation of Schools at UCLA.

In this interview, Dr Noguera points to the various factors that keep the achievement gap from being closed. These include gaps in educational opportunities that correspond to the neighborhood in which the children and their families live, and as well as their racial and socioeconomic backgrounds. Mr. Otto and Dr. Noguera also discuss “silver bullet” solutions, the key ingredients for school transformation, and what “high-quality” classrooms have in common.
