The food cart culture of Portland cannot be contained. As more people learn about the amazing food and community atmosphere offered by food cart pods, more neighborhoods want a pod of their own. One of the newest pods is The Gantry at Zidell Yards.
The Gantry is located in the South Waterfront on SW Moody Ave between the lower terminal of The Tram and the western end of the Ross Island Bridge. This location was chosen because of a desire to expand the options for food in the South Waterfront.
Named for the iconic gantry crane located at Zidell Marine, the impressive steel structure towers over the pod like the skeletal remains of a Recognizer from TRON. The crane’s image will also serve as the logo for the pod. Lest you be concerned, as The Gantry at Zidell Yards is a new pod, the carts residing at the pod may be new and untested, lay your concerns to rest. The strength of the lineup coming to The Gantry is a strong as that crane.
The roster of carts that will be (or are, depending on when you read this) at The Gantry features some of the best carts in Portland’s food cart universe. At the time of this writing the list includes Neue Southern, Ash Wood Fired Pizza, Hot Box BBQ, Garden Monsters, Namu Korean-Hawaiian and across Moody Avenue, the Scout Beer Garden.
You will also find the Home Base Farm Stand at The Gantry. This stand will be offering fresh produce in season as well as other grocery items. Home Base will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood as there is currently no similar establishment in the area.
The Gantry at Zidell Yards is currently set to open for business on Wednesday, July 12, 2015. A grand opening party will be thrown in August 2015.
