Smashed apples make an intoxicating elixir. Ciders are fast becoming one of the preferred beverages of the discriminating fruit-based drink aficionado.

The NW Ciderfest will celebrate cider, and those who create cider, at a family-friendly event on October 11, 2014.

NW Ciderfest, at Pioneer Courthouse Square in downtown Portland, will feature 24 cideries, as a fundraiser for the local Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Here is a promo code, for discounted tickets purchased at the NW Ciderfest website: supportthemda.

One featured cidery, Swift Cider, was named for the Vaux’s swifts that inhabit the chimney at Chapman Elementary school in Portland. Tasty Tuesday guest, Aidan Currie, and his business partner, Jeremy Kwit, started Swift Cider in 2011.

Here, Rebecca Webb and Steven Shomler talk with Colleen King and Kyle Ellerbe of MDA about NW Ciderfest, and Aidan Currie of Swift Cider about, well, cider.
