Police have identified 88-year-old Lawrence Cambra as the suspect in the shooting Sunday of a volunteer reservist with the Oregon City police. Cambra died at the scene.
Oregon City police arrived at a house fire Sunday afternoon – after a report that a man there was armed.
The suspect reportedly confronted officer Robert Libke and shot him.
Police say they quickly established a perimeter and evacuated Libke, who was hospitalized.
Clackamas County Sergeant, Dan Kraus, says the two SWAT deputies involved in shooting the suspect are Matt Swanson and Jesse Unck.
“We have an arson investigation at the home that burned,” said Kraus. “We have an investigation of the shooting of Officer Libke by Mr. Cambra. And then we have an investigation of the shooting of Mr. Cambra by Sergeant Swanson and Deputy Unck.”
Police say Libke — a volunteer — was working with a regular officer.
They also point out that this is the first Oregon City police officer shot in the line of duty since 1906
