Last summer I went to a Women Crush Music showcase at The Jade Lounge where I was struck by the originality and authenticity of one of Portland’s newest artists, Kingsley. On the heals of releasing her single Ghost, Kingsley dropped by the station to talk to us about how she made her way to Portland, the evolution of her music, and the experiences that have shaped her as a musician. During the evening we played some of Kingsley’s influences including Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, ZZ Ward, Beyonce, and Adele. When speaking about her creative process and where she pulls inspiration from, Kingsley writes music that reflects the current struggles and successes in her life. Our interview most importantly highlighted her singles Lie Detector and Ghost which we shared with our listeners at the end of the evening. I want to thank Kingsley for being on the show and I hope you enjoy the podcast!
At my core, I am a musician, songwriter, producer, studio owner/engineer, and, most importantly, a lover of all things music. It is my goal to help connect listeners to local artists. I believe we should all be searching for the next thing that inspires us.
I am originally from Arizona, where over many years, I played in several different independent bands in the Phoenix and Tucson areas. I put in many, many hours of grassroots-style promotion in order to get my bands heard. I am excited to be a part of Portland Radio Project where I can provide an avenue to local Portland musicians to share their art.
