There’s a first-ever recording in homage of her two most important mentors, and there is an over 15 year gap to be filled. Diane Schuur has not been in Portland since 1998. But the connections to the NW are plentiful. And a wonderful, intimate concert is planned!
Homecoming for Diane Schuur!
A little background on I Remember You and my conversation with Diane and the show details, below.
In a recent preview of a performance at Birdland in which she debuted the repertoire from the new album, noted music journalist, Will Friedwald (who also wrote the liner notes for the CD), stated: “Ms. Schuur has become a much more subtle artist, capable of mellow moods as well as blasting out those big high notes that were always her signature. Her Birdland debut is her best show yet, giving us the more mature-Schuur, but also taking us back to her beginnings, as she honors the two major mentors of her personal and professional life, Stan Getz and Frank Sinatra, in radiant arrangements by Alan Broadbent.”
