On the latest Drop-In Session, trumpeter, composer and educator Noah Simpson sits down with fellow trumpeter Cyrus Nabipoor to discuss his musical upbringing, the American Refrain educational outreach program, and his plans for an upcoming EP.
Raised in Arizona and residing in Portland since 2014, Noah has been a constant source of energy and inspiration for the local music scene. He can be seen playing all over town, leading his own groups as well as lending his unmistakable voice to other projects.
In 2020, PDX Jazz contracted Noah to organize an educational performance series, the purpose of which being to communicate the lineage and tenants of Black America Music. The American Refrain features a unique and thoughtful program of music and showcases some of Portland’s young talent. It debuted at the 2021 PDX Jazz Festival.
Noah is also in the process of producing an EP with local artist-run record label People Music. Brand new, never before aired demos from that EP can be heard on this Drop-In Session!
