Music Workshop is a Portland based nonprofit organization that creates high-quality, culturally responsive K-8 music education programming and provides it to teachers free of charge. Together with their worldwide community of teachers, Music Workshop’s mission is to inspire students everywhere to enrich their lives and learning through music.
One of the ways that Music Workshop does this is through their Soundwaves Concert Series. These free concerts for youth at the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts are being held July 18th, 25th and the 26th with performances by The Playing for Change Band and Ron Artis II and the Truth. Along with incredible live music, there is a Q&A navigated by the series’ emcee local high school student Melanie Rosales Del Cid. The concerts will be recorded and shared as educational content to Music Workshop’s network of over 11,300 teachers, reaching over 4.3 million students in all 50 states and 99 countries. And these Soundwaves concerts are FREE!!!!
Music Workshop’s Founder & Executive Director Amy Richter along with Melanie, the Soundwaves emcee extraordinaire, dropped by Sounds of PDX for a chat about this free youth series. Take a listen below to our interview…this is a wonderful summer time family event and an opportunity to inspire all through music.
Reserve your seat today (it is free to attend any of the Soundwaves shows however you do need to make a reservation.) And stay tuned to PRP’s Sounds of PDX as we might just have a Drop-In Session featuring one or more of the musicians performing at Soundwaves!
