The next few days involve a nod to a beloved Portland musician gone too soon, a grand re-opening of The Portland Ballet, world premiere works of art scattered around the city, and some very choice music to keep spirits bright as we move in and out of sunshine, fog and shadow.

Here Comes Everybody

Her’s a chance to see a group that’s been off the stages recently, but heading back in our direction. Jimmy Mak’s is the place to check in tonight for a “trio of trios”. I haven’t seen them in ages, but dipping back into a couple of their older albums reminds me how fascinating and quirky their music and lyrics really are. Below, a description from the band on what to expect.

Here Comes Everybody is super excited to get on to a rock stage again to showcase songs from the upcoming new album the way they should be heard, loud.  They’ll perform a few blasts from the past, but mostly you’ll hear the new tunes inspired by Shakespeare.  That’s right, you heard right: Michael and René’s signature pop music incorporating lyric content from Hamlet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Romeo and Juliet.  A giant fun, rocking combination.”

Celebration of Life

Portland fixture Jim Miller passed away after suffering a massive heart attack December 14th. Now it’s a chance to celebrate his life and musical legacy. Proceeds from tonight’s gathering  at Duff’s Garage will go to his partner Wendy and son Wyatt.

A Grand Re-Opening

That amazing labor of love that is called The Portland Ballet has patiently waded through a tremendous remodel and add-on to the school that is nestled at the top of the Hillsdale neighborhood next to Wilson HS. Now everyone is invited to the Re-Opening Gala and be treated to performances from the students as well. Check out the video below and find out more HERE.

A rehearsal in progress in a brand new studio at The Portland Ballet. Spacious and bright which is how former Los Angeles dancers Nancy Davis and Jim Lane wanted it; loads of sunshine.
