It’s a BRASSROOTS REVOLUTION! Liz Kasser, President and Principal Coordinator for Honk!PDX, stopped by the PRP studio for our latest Community Voices segment to tell us all about it!
Honk!PDX is a free celebration of community, collaboration and creative expression and is dedicated to creating a community of inclusion. Called everything from “avant-oompah!” to a “brassroots revolution,” Honk! bands draw inspiration from sources as diverse as Klezmer, Balkan and Romani music, Brazilian Samba, Afrobeat and Highlife, Punk, Funk, and Hip Hop, as well as the New Orleans second line tradition, and deliver it with all the passion and spirit of Mardi Gras and Carnival.
Honk!PDX is working to break down systemic barriers for the underrepresented within our community, and increase community access by producing a yearly festival in neighborhoods of the Portland area underserved by the arts.
And who doesn’t love some horns? Grab your brass (😉) and join in on the fun! AND consider supporting their mission – it’s super easy – just click here.
