Bringing female hip-hop to the forefront of the Portland music scene is her passion. Meet Ms.Elle, PDX hip-hop artist and Portland Radio Project host of “Ladies to the Mic”.
“Ladies to the Mic” is a weekly, one hour radio show that plays all female hip-hop and R&B music by local and mainstream talent. With a history of hip hop culture being driven by a male leaders, Ms.Elle has a mission to diversify that.
Growing up in PDX, the hip-hop opportunities were minimal for a 14 year old artist like Ms.Elle. In response, she took her talents to where the birth of hip-hop was started: New York City. There, she released her 2015 debut mixtape “Broke”, while also getting her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. Since returning to Portland in 2017, Ms.Elle found her home with the emerging hip-hop scene like A Beat Happening and Damian Lillard’s #4BarFriday Challenge. After receiving great praise for her stage performance and melodic rap style, Ms.Elle was well on her way to becoming a well-known name within the Portland music scene.
Providing opportunity and exposure to female talent is the root of how “Ladies to the Mic” was created. From dance tunes to storytelling, “Ladies to the Mic” is the bridge to celebrate music from female artists around the world. Who better to share that than a local rapper, Ms.Elle?! Tune in every Wednesday from 8:30 pm – 9:30 pm to listen to Ladies to the Mic on 99.1fm, Portland Radio Project.
