Friends and fans are trying to drum up funds to build a memorial for the late Portland cartoonist John Callahan. After a kickoff party in October, the Legacy-Good Samaritan Foundation has donated land for the memorial on NW Marshall at 21st.
Callahan was rendered quadriplegic at 21, after a car crash that followed a day of bar-hopping with a friend. Paralyzed for life, Callahan authored a stunning biography about his addiction, “He Won’t Get Far on Foot,” along with nine other books, countless cartoons, 200 publications, two animated TV series, and many other creative works.
If you would like to contribute to a memorial honoring his legacy, check out the Facebook page.
