Brian Copeland Band teams up with Jake Oken-Berg at Jimmy Mak’s on Friday September 13
PORTLAND, OR – Nearly a year has passed since Brian Copeland released his latest CD “ The B Sides” to a standing room only crowd at Jimmy Mak’s in Portland. That night, also featuring Portland’s Jake OkenBerg, was a huge success for both bands. Since that night in 2012, Copeland has enjoyed many successes, including rave reviews for his music and a #1 ranking on Reverbnation. Copeland and Oken-Berg look to repeat that stellar 2012 night when they bring their music back to the Jimmy Mak’s stage Friday September 13
Singing and strumming since the age of ten, Brian Copeland has cultivated a unique brand of catchy and lyrical guitar-pop. Born in Iowa City and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Copeland draws on a planet of inspiration ranging from a loving family and unwavering friendships to quirky Portland encounters and spectacular Cascadian scenes. Built on honest themes and experiences, his music engages a wide range of listeners from all walks of life. The Corvallis Gazette Times had this to say: “His (Copeland’s) songs dance with dreamy winks of Beatles-esque shiver; Crowded House’s Neil Finn (who remains at large); and a majestic dose of Matthew Sweet – all of these things, of course, are Very, Very Good.”
The evolution of Copeland’s current band can be traced back through nearly fifteen years of on-stage success and partnerships with dozens of accomplished musicians through his previous bands The Furleys and Pale Green Pants. This year, with some of the best regional talent on board, including Arcellus Sykes on bass guitar, Brud Giles on drums, Jeff Koch on lead guitar, and Amanda Breese on keys/vocals, Copeland released his latest recording, 4-song EP “The B Sides,” Anchored by reflective lyrics, powerful vocal arrangements and silky guitar hooks, the recording showcases not only superb musicianship, but Copeland’s production and songwriting chops. The Oregonian says: “There is something to be said for a well-crafted pop song, and this disc is full of them.”
Jake Oken-Berg has been playing piano, singing and writing songs since the age of five. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Oken-Berg grew up listening to jazz, hip-hop and pop music, ran for mayor of Portland at age 19, and co-founded the Portland pop-rock band The Retrofits in 2002. The Portland Mercury calls Oken-Berg’s piano-driven pop “emotional music without a trace of irony” and Willamette Week says “Oken-Berg definitely knows how to play.”
Admission is $10 at the door. Music starts at 8:00 p.m. Advanced reservations to guarantee seating for the show can be made by calling 503-295-6542.
