First Day of the Blues.
Some wanted another degree or two on the first day – others called it “Goldilocks” weather: not too hot, not too cold, just right.
Highlights included fast rhymes from Jerron “Blind Boy” Paxton, the witty banjo, guitar, harmonica and piano playing songster, busker and itinerant bluesman from Los Angeles.
One of Norman Sylvester’s protégés, Tevis Hodge Junior, showed what can happen when a young Southern native turned Northwest blues-man is moved by the musical traditions of his African-American heritage.
Perennial local favorite: Lloyd Jones Struggle.
Lil Ed and the Blues Imperials: a whole lotta foot-stompin’ fun.
PRP.FM darling Cooper, whose final tune – “Burning Down the House” – threatened to melt the First Tech Blues Stage into the Willamette:
Thursday night’s big headliner: Los Lobos, which PRP.FM launch sponsor iQ Credit Union brought to town.
Los Lobos just received – two days ago – a Latin Grammy from the Latin Recording Academy – a lifetime achievement award for their Chicano Rock, from East L.A.
And that was just the first day!
Here’s a video postcard of the first day from Robert Parish.
