Pope Francis has street cred. He told Catholics at a church outside Rome earlier this week he’d been a bar bouncer in his youth. He didn’t say whether it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone in the wrong jeans to get into his bar. The pontiff also told the church group he’d worked in a chemical lab where he ran tests and swept the floors.

In his most recent official statement, Francis said he prefers “a Church which is bruised, hurting and dirty because it has been out on the streets.” Apparently, he knows what he’s talking about.
