Have you noticed that the Girl Scouts are once again selling cookies? This annual event not only raises money for a very worth cause, it also teaches business and people skills. The young ladies you may encounter at your favorite grocery store are learning five important life skills. Goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. These are valuable skills that are the basis for continuing success and will guide them to be the leaders of tomorrow.
With eight different varieties of cookies available, it’s not difficult to find a cookie that will become a favorite. Whether it’s the Tagalongs, peanut butter patties covered in chocolate, the Thin Mints (need I say more?), or the Samoas, crispy cookie rings smothered in caramel and coconut and drizzled with chocolate. There is even a gluten-free cookie, the Toffee-tastics.
Booth sales began on February 19, 2016 and will continue through March 13, 2016. The Girl Scouts website has a ‘cookie locator’ app that is a free download for iPhone and Android which will show you the nearest location that is selling cookies. If there is not a booth selling cookies near you, the cookies can be ordered online through Digital Cookie. Each girl has her own webpage that helps her to learn the skills of e-commerce. If you know a girl scout, ask her for the address to her webpage to order from the web.
Listen now as Steven Shomler and Ken Wilson talk with two real Girl Scouts as well as Sarah Miller, Director of Communications for the Girl Scouts or Oregon and Southwest Washington while eating their fill of Girl Scout Cookies.
