Rebecca Webb
Founder, Team Leader
With her B.A. in journalism from the University of Oregon, Rebecca Webb has reported news for radio and TV stations in Eugene, Portland and Seattle for 30+ years. Most notably, Rebecca established the News Department at KINK FM in 1980 and led it to critical and popular success over two decades.
Highlights include reporting news for KOIN TV, co-hosting AM Northwest on KATU, and co-hosting the KINK FM Morning Show with Les Sarnoff.
While garnering numerous journalism awards from the Associated Press (AP) and United Press International (UPI), Rebecca also had plenty of fun: a few film and TV cameos. She led the Oregon Symphony children’s holiday concert, sang with the women’s ensemble, ViVoce — and there may have been a karaoke incident or two.
Concerned that radio ownership consolidation diminished opportunities for both musicians and journalists, Rebecca wrote her master’s thesis on the subject in 2011. Click here for a synopsis.
She subsequently helped found Portland Radio Project PRP.fm as a new model for radio: closely linked to the community, giving voice to local musicians, nonprofits and small businesses.
Launched with an accomplished team of radio professionals in 2013, the station offers a new model: a unique combination of music and public service. It has garnered two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from RTDNA (Radio TV Digital News Assn.).
Recently granted an LPFM (low power broadcast license), PRP.fm broadcasts at 99.1 FM in the heart of Portland, and streams online worldwide.
