Among the many things Portland Center Stage does really well is its mission to offer an amazing mix of cutting edge, physical and unexpected theatre balanced by a richly curated stream of long-time favorites and classics. All under the one roof of the Gerding Theater at the Armory. Here comes a brutally honest, incredibly physical, in-your-face piece of theatre that is The People’s Republic of Portland.
Lauren Weedman’s Investigation Into Portland and Portlanders
If you saw this one-woman tour de force in 2013, know that it keeps on changing each time Lauren does it. There are some bigger changes that show off her own life in flux, but she tells us in our conversation, below, that there might be interesting life-stuff that has happened during the day that will cause her to pivot and change up how the show rolls out. Watch the video, and listen to our entire madcap convo below the video feature. PRP runs through April 19th in the cozy Ellen Bye Studio.
And below, a real treat. The complete and unexpurgated!!! conversation we had with Lauren at the Gerding Theater last week. Thanks for the fun time, Lauren.
Star of HBO’s Looking and former Daily Show correspondent Lauren Weedman is back with her sold-out hit The People’s Republic of Portland. Two years ago we invited Lauren to return to Portland following the run of her show BUST at PCS. We knew she had some unique perspectives on all things Rose City; and we had a hunch it would be really, really funny to put them on stage. And Lauren proved us right. She returns this spring for a limited run, so grab a PBR, put on your skinniest jeans and explore kombucha-estactic-dance-bicycle-obsessed Portland with Lauren all over again.
