There’s no question about it, it’s gotta be tough being a talented musician these days. Especially so if enduring a creative slump during a pandemic becomes part of the picture.
Also, ahem. Have you tried being a music writer? Not only must you address your own lapses into melancholy, but the bands and artists you normally follow seem stuck in their own mud puddles. Inertia has certainly become part of the music scene!
One band worth getting to know right now?
Lend an ear to dream-pop FLOWVERS from Portsmouth, England. Their youthful effervescence and fun arrangements are a great pick-me-up for times like these.
And, they have a new EP – their debut “Throwaway Generation,” to boast about.
Released last month, “Throwaway Generation” pulls together all of the band’s recent indie pop material. Expertly produced by Gethin Pearson (Crystal Fighters), it’s a diverting, frolicking collection of Indie Pop tracks sure to spiff up your current playlist.
Here’s the colorful title track:

More about FLOWVERS
Hailing from Portsmouth, a port city in Hampshire, England, FLOWVERS are: Matisse Moretti, guitar, lead vocals; Stanley Powell, lead guitar, background vocals; Henry Wood, bass, background vocals; and Connor Griffiths, drums.
Musical influences cited by the young teenage band mates include sounds of the late 80’s & 90’s and bands RIDE, The Stone Roses and The Cure.
Aside from the title track, on their new EP we like the catchy chorus found on radio-friendly “She Don’t Talk About It” and “Fresh Air’s” jangly guitar licks.
Next moves…
FLOWVERS heads back out, virus permitting, in July and August to Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, London, Guildford, Southampton and Portsmouth.
Several music fest shows are also in their future.
Check out their Facebook page and watch for their upcoming show announcements on social media. You can also find their music on soundcloud and iTunes.
