Home ownership can seem like an impossible dream for some families. But there are organizations working to make that dream come true.

Since 1999 Proud Ground has striven to make home ownership a reality for Portland families. This nonprofit works to expand home ownership opportunities for low- and moderate-income families so they can live (or remain) in the community of their choice. This is done by utilizing the Community Land Trust model of permanent affordability.

Proud Ground has an impressive track record, having served 300-plus first time home buyers. On top of that, zero of their homes have been lost to foreclosure.

Rising housing costs and displacement are everyday realities for many of the families Proud Ground serves. They serve families who can qualify for a home loan, just not one at market rate. And because these homes are forever-affordable, family after family has access to the stability and wealth-building that come with home ownership. This also mean our region has a growing supply of homes that are affordable for generations to come.

Proud Ground provides families with several tools to become homeowners. Some of these tools include:

  1. Home buyer education and counseling
  2. Post-purchase support, including foreclosure prevention counseling and home repair grants
  3. Affordable home buying opportunities
  4. Asset management

Home buyers aren’t the only group served by this organization. Once a family owns a home there are several resources available through Proud Ground. These resources include: earthquake planning guides, free solar installation, and free tool libraries.
