Yes. Spellcheck tried to correct “gusbandry” to “husbandry”, but that and so many other words that tumble out of the quick-witted writer/director of the new web series is just an example of Alicia J. Rose’s neologistic mind at work. She has ALWAYS coined new words and expressions. As you will hear in our drop-in session.
One woman, one man, a LOT of weed, a little crying and NO sexual attraction whatsoever. Love is SO gay
The critically acclaimed new web series kicked off last fall, and now it is season finale time. Save Thursday April 28th for the fun with director and cast, and see the entire season in one evening.
Alicia says the show is very “post-marriage equality and post-legal weed”. Which all feels normal to many Portlanders, but maybe not so much elsewhere. The idea is to “point out love from a different angle”. Enjoy our conversation.
Alicia’s band is Moon Tiger. Check them out.
**This screening is preceded by a reception with the cast and filmmaker from 7-8 p.m. in the Sculpture Garden of the Portland Art Museum with wine from Sokol Blosser and pizza from Hotlips!**
The Northwest Film Center presents NW Tracking:
The Benefits of Gusbandry Complete
First Season Binge & Finale Premiere!!
April 28, NW Film Center at the Whitsell Theater, 8pm
Join us as we “binge watch” the complete first season of Portland filmmaker Alicia J. Rose’s new hit web series The Benefits of Gusbandry.
“With a mordant wit and natural, lived-in performances, (The Benefits of Gusbandry) combines the easygoing charm of shows like Master of None with the dark humor and outsized personality of You’re the Worst.”—A.V. Club.
At her debaucherous 40th birthday party, serial relationship-killer Jackie Rosenblum meets handsome and charming River Manning. Their ensuing adventures in self-medication, late-blooming, and questionable judgment lead them to discover a raucous new kind of “significant otherness.” Co-written by Rose and comedic powerhouse Courtenay Hameister, and starring Portland’s own Brooke Totman and Kurt Conroyd the seven hilarious episodes of The Benefits of Gusbandry’s debut season cover topics such as the “new middle age”, perils of gay/straight internet dating, de-closeting, glory holes, gaybies, legal weed, gateway gays and much more.
This screening will also include the WORLD PREMIERE of TBOG’s season finale “Exes.”
The cast and Rose will be in attendance and available for a short Q&A after the show. (85 mins.)
