Tis the season for…nonprofits?

As you may know, Giving Tuesday was founded as a pushback to the likes of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. And now, two local institutions have launched a statewide campaign, #OregoniansGive, to shine a light on hundreds of nonprofits around Oregon.

Full disclosure: Portland Radio Project, where our mission is to give a voice to local artists, nonprofits and businesses, is on the list! And, in the spirit of the season, PRP.fm will devote a full week of Community Voices coverage to profile a different nonprofit each day, Nov. 16 – 20.

With support from Albina Community Bank and the Willamette Valley Development Officers (WVDO), a statewide team made up of volunteers from nonprofits, businesses and foundations, organized the #OregoniansGive campaign. And, since nonprofits are not charged a fee to participate, 100 percent of donations go directly to those organizations providing services to communities around the state.

PRP is featuring interviews with representatives from organizations on the #OregoniansGive team all this week. Listen every day at 9:40 a.m. for Community Voices, the award-winning radio series:

Monday, Nov. 16 – Echo Theater, an all-ages dance school that provides a safe space for people from all walks of life to perform, collaborate, create and dance fearlessly.

Tuesday, Nov. 17 – CUB (Citizen’s Utility Board), a nonprofit that advocates for Oregon’s residential utility customers before administrative, judicial and legislative bodies.

Wednesday, Nov. 18 – Oregon Children’s Theatre, which provides theater experiences for children, through acting classes, workshops, professionally-produced family-friendly performances, and more.

Thursday, Nov. 19 – Reading Results, an organization that partners with low-incomes schools to offer weekly tutoring and reading intervention to at-risk students.

Friday, Nov. 20 – MRG Foundation (McKenzie River Gathering), which works toward social and environmental justice.

More background:

Giving Tuesday was founded by 92nd Street Y — New York City cultural center – as a way of harnessing the diverse energy of donors, nonprofits, business, governments, charitable foundations and world-changers. The goal was to create one day and one platform to globally unite givers. The results? Last year, the #GivingTuesday site tallied over 30,000 partners from 68 counties committed to joining the challenge.

This year, by collaborating with nonprofits and local governments statewide, #OregoniansGive organizers hope to generate $3.9 million for 200 Oregon nonprofits.
