The first son of an original Columbia House records subscriber, it seems I have unfailingly curated music my entire life. Walking or biking 7 miles to the downtown infamous Eugene, Oregon record store, ” Chrystalship Records and Tapes ” just to grab as many of the free back issues of Rolling Stone ( all covers torn off ) to take back to my bedroom and dive deep into the vast nuggets of musical information, culture and lifestyles portrayed by a richly creative and original population. My walls became covered in all the ephemera of rock-and roll. Vinyl LP’s actually came with posters, just like all our breakfast cereals of the day. I was hooked forever and now music is the balancing stones and glue in my personal life.
Fast forward, a degree in audio engineering, a cool position as a producer, engineer in Atlanta, Georgia exposed and gave opportunity to the live music world as I was part of a jingle house creating commercials for radio and television. But, the West Coast called me home ( I’m not a southern guy, at all ). Always not far from things musical-the collecting and curating of a reasonably large music library, I became aware of community radio and came to an immediate stop in the road, pulled over and reached out to the staff at Portland Radio Project.
Flashback, my show, is another extension of my musical flavors that believes there is too much music that goes unnoticed and under-appreciated. ” Your next favorite song is the one you do not know “.
Jump on-board and paddle away with me for a couple hours to dance on the porch or under the streetlight.
