DESCRIPTION:The eighth annual Gorge Ride sponsored by the Friends of the Historic Columbia River Highway will be held Saturday\, June 14\, 2014\, beginning at the Gorge Discovery Center\, 5000 Discovery Drive\, in The Dalles\, Oregon. It extends 19.25 miles along the historic highway and State Trail to the west to the Senator Mark O. Hatfield West Trailhead\, just east of Hood River. \nThis route is a combination of historic highway that is open to motor vehicles\, with very low traffic\, and the HCRH State Trail that is open only to hikers and bicyclists. It’s an out-and-back route of 38.5 miles. This ride is supported with water stops\, snacks\, mechanical support and SAG wagons. Maps with cue sheet and elevation chart are provided. hcrh.org

DESCRIPTION:The Monster Cookie Metric Century Bicycle Ride is the Salem Bicycle Club’s premier spring event. The ride starts at the State Capitol Mall in Salem and takes riders over back roads to Champoeg State Park and back to Salem. The ride is open to all bicyclists who agree to share the road with other users by riding safely\, lawfully and courteously. Each participant must wear a helmet that meets CPSC requirements. \nThe route is generally flat with a few short hills. The map of the route offers a preview of the ride. GPS users can download a track of the route. Snacks\, fruit\, refreshments and toilet facilities are available at a rest stop and at Champoeg State Park. The route will close at 4 p.m. Participants should pace themselves so that they can complete the ride by that time. \nThe first Monster Cookie Metric Century was held in 1977. To learn about that inaugural ride\, read Monster Cookie Nostalgia. More than 1\,800 cyclists participated in the thirty-seventh annual Monster Cookie Metric Century held on April 28\, 2013.
