Friday, November 24 Young Elk, Second Sleep, Gazelle(s), The Mighty Missoula at Kelly’s Olympian
A night of captivating music with:
Distant, somber, and often times, crushingly bleak—Young Elk’s songs are painfully deliberate. In fact, everything is done on purpose. The songs, often penned by frontman and guitar player Ezekiel J Rudick, weave a tapestry of complicated stories that delve into the depths of faith, doubt, abuse, death, and divorce.
play a form of intensified post-rock. The music is combination of sprawling guitars, thick, distorted bass loops, and heavy handed drums.
“.. like staring into a sea of stars and metabolizing the eternity staring back at you..periodically dropping beats, which gives the music an off-kilter intensity. Throughout, songs build and ebb, stop and start, losing themselves in chaos and pulling themselves back into restraint. You hear moments of wild aggression and beautiful introspection..” Eugene Weekly
The Mighty Missoula
In a saturated world of instrumental post-rock bands, The Mighty Missoula are keeping things simple as a three-piece. Like their namesake, which triggered cataclysmic flooding of the Pacific Northwest, they produce lush and temperamental streams of soundtrack-esque nostalgia.
