If you are familiar with the work of Richmond Fontaine, you know Willy as its lead singer and also as an acclaimed novelist. You also then might know, Willy likes the darker underbelly of things. He knew from the start he wanted to work with The Damnations Tx‘s’ Amy Boone and create a band with her. Then he set about making Amy the front singer for newly created project, The Delines.

I hadn’t caught up with Willy since maybe the  night of October 5th, 2013, when Richmond Fontaine was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame. So a chat? Overdue! He and The Delines are fresh off a European tour, and there are some NW dates as well. Check out our conversation and show info below that.

The Delines recorded Colfax, their debut, in their hometown of Portland,

Oregon, with lead songwriter/guitarist Willy Vlautin, drummer Sean

Oldham (both of Richmond Fontaine), and John Askew (Neko Case, The

Dodos) handling production duties and bassist Freddie Trujillo,

keyboardist Cory Gray, and pedal-steel player Tucker Jackson rounding

out the band’s lineup.

The band has seen Colfax shoot to the top of critics’ lists over the

past year with favorable album and show reviews from outlets such as the

Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, and Uncut. Willy Vlautin, lead singer

of Richmond Fontaine and critically acclaimed novelist, fell in love

with the voice of The Damnations TX lead singer Amy Boone and wrote the

album with her in mind.

Kelly’s Olympian is located at 426 SW Washington St, Portland, OR 97204
