Portland Radio Project

VOLUNTEERING COMMITMENT

We are excited that you want to join our team! However, here are a few things…

Do you love music? Do you believe in independent media? Would you lend your skills and talents to support an alternative to commercial radio?

Join PRP.FM, and learn what goes on behind the scenes at a nonprofit, community-supported, award-winning radio station.

PRP. FM needs people with all kinds of skills and experiences. We need reliable people with a positive attitude. Volunteering for PRP.FM is a great opportunity to show your support for your community, and connect with Portland-area music culture.

HERE ARE A FEW THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:

  1. We expect you to inform yourself about the history and mission of PRP. You can hear a podcast explaining what led to our founding. You can read about the PRP mission.
  2. Be self-sufficient and willing to learn. Life is a never-ending learning process. When in doubt, check our wiki – our growing database of knowledge.
  3. Adopt and become efficient with the communications tools we use:
    • Slack – online collaborative workspace: Be social, responsive, and helpful.
    • Google Documents / Drives: know how to edit and share files.
    • WordPress – easy to learn. See Post Article instructions on the wiki page.
  4. If you plan to participate in our content production (blog posts, social media, podcasts, on-air Drop-In Sessions, etc.) you must meet the minimum competency expectations. Training will be provided if human resources are available but not guaranteed. YouTube videos exist on nearly everything – try them first.
  5. There will be regular monthly meetings on the 1st Saturday of each month, 3 pm, at the station. Please try to attend each month. You are required to attend a minimum of nine (out of 12) meetings during the year.
  6. Please read and agree to Operating Principles below.

PRP OPERATING PRINCIPLES

  • Respect each PRP Team member, and the organization, being thoughtful when interacting and/or speaking about each other.
  • Offer goodwill/benefit of the doubt when issues arise.
  • Initiate positive communication, overlooking minor issues – approaching significant issues with constructive, solution-based proposals.
  • Mutually promote others’ projects, as partners, on-air, and on social media. Listen to others’ shows often, comment on social media
  • Behave professionally on the job and on social media. Your public critique of each other and PRP should be positive; grievances can be aired privately.
  • Give something back: If you have a two-hour air shift, for example, plan to donate two hours per month to do something else PRP needs to get done.
