Born in Cincinnati with a screwdriver in his hand, Phil’s natural ability to take things apart and put them back together quickly evolved into a talent for fixing them, too. Teen years spent designing and building audio equipment from scratch led to college years immersed in amateur radio, broadcasting, professional sound recording and reinforcement.
After earning a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Phil became a hardware design engineer for Burroughs, Tektronix, Planar, and a scrappy little startup called Home Row.
After helping AllClassical.Org build and install new transmitter equipment, Phil began with CBS Radio as engineer for KINK-FM, as well as transmitter engineer for other CBS properties in Portland. After Alpha Broadcasting acquired those stations, Phil continued as transmitter engineer until 2012.
Phil’s instinctive gift for making the nuts and bolts of a radio station work, and keep working, coupled with his love of the Northwest and the good radio it deserves, makes him the perfect guy to have on Portland Radio Project’s ground floor – with a screwdriver in his hand.
