PRP Drop-In Session with Harper – Sweet Tunes

PRPmogoWhen you think of a strong trio in the world of music you may think of The Police, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, or Muse, but here in Portland I think of Harper. Harper is a band that exemplifies smart songwriting and beautifully layered vocals. They manage to blend fast staccato type vocal runs into long sweeping melodies. The songs are well thought out with special attention on placement and phrasing. Along with their original songs they have a special talent for mashing up popular songs live.

The band is made of Alyssa Fitchie, Josue Rivas, and Brandi Miller. The camaraderie of this project is most apparent on stage but when speaking to them in person you can’t help but see their connection. During the interview they spoke of the humbling experience of having their fans request that they become a band. They are never shy to express their appreciation for their fans and friends.

We were treated to a live performance of a few original songs and a cover. Seeing them perform in studio and truly connect with one another was such a great experience. They also shared a song with us that was just 4 days old at the time of the performance.

The band recently played at the 2015 MOGO Music Festival featuring all local talent! Harper also shares their plans to release a 6 song EP in the coming months. Keep an eye out on their social media for upcoming shows! This is a live performance you just can’t miss!

I host "Sounds of PDX" every Tuesday from 7-9pm.

At my core, I am a musician, songwriter, producer, studio owner/engineer, and, most importantly, a lover of all things music. It is my goal to help connect listeners to local artists. I believe we should all be searching for the next thing that inspires us.

I am originally from Arizona, where over many years, I played in several different independent bands in the Phoenix and Tucson areas. I put in many, many hours of grassroots-style promotion in order to get my bands heard. I am excited to be a part of Portland Radio Project where I can provide an avenue to local Portland musicians to share their art.
