Laura Gibson understands loss. Her website describes a series of unexpected occurrences culminating in an horrific gas explosion which not only killed two other residents, but also claimed her home in the East Village, her identification, musical instruments, and years of notebooks. It’s no surprise that her fourth l.p., Empire Builder, stands as her most personal record to date. Equally raw and focused, Empire Builder captures a life blown open, an individual mid-transformation. She’ll be playing a special solo show to celebrate the release of the seven-inch, Saturday, April 15th at Mississippi Studios, and will be joined by “the incredible harmonizing songstresses Lenore (who have a debut record in the works.)” Lenore is a new collaboration between vocalists and songwriters Joy Pearson and Rebecca Marie Miller.

There’s nothing quite like Roselit Bone, a band that shamelessly embraces its signature 70’s spaghetti western psychedelia sound. For all that they borrow from history, the band’s unrelenting flair and style is true to Portland’s love of playacting. Check them out at Rontoms, playing with Weezy Ford, which means you may get to see a little tap dancing with this set.
