Today is the day. If you commute to work alone in your car, it might be time to consider alternatives. The Oregon Department of Transportation has announced that this year’s Drive Less Challenge will be, for the first time, promoted throughout the entire state.

The 12-day challenge, which begins today, is aimed at cutting 500,000 vehicle miles traveled. This means fewer solo trips in your car, and more public transportation, biking and walking.

Studies indicate that Oregonians drive about 33 billion miles every year, which amounts to almost 200 trips to the sun and back.

You can go to the Drive Less Challenge website where you can be matched with a potential carpooling buddy.
