The great Victor Borge once said, “Laughter is the closest distance between two people.” Comedy has been the backbone of many communities for centuries. The community of Portland is no different. Curious Comedy Theater has been showcasing some of Portland’s best jokesters since 2008. They also strive to build strong, supportive, healthy relationships within the theater and in the comedy community.

Curious Comedy offers classes for beginners and comedic veterans alike. For beginners there is a Free Improv class. This class gives participants a taste of how improv classes work in CCT’s warm and welcoming environment so that potential students can safely determine if  classes are a good fit. This class consists of mostly fun group games and exercises. Curious Comedy strives to create an environment that is safe, supportive and fun.

CCT also offers a Level 1: Improv Fundamentals that promises to be a fun and dynamic introduction to improv that utilizes short form games and creative exercises to help students understand the all-important fundamentals of improvisational theater. This is an excellent course for experienced improvisors as well as those who are new to improvisational theater. The skills covered in this seven-week course include: making offers, listening, acceptance, heightening, emotion, physical comedy, character building, team building, stage presence and voice projection. Those are just two of many classes to choose from at Curious Comedy Theater. If you’d like to explore more of the classes that CCT has to offer visit here.

Curious Comedy also has some great events coming up. Every Friday they present Open Court. This event features Portland improvisors of all skills levels collaborating to perform long-form improv. Everyone is welcome to play or watch whether they have been playing for years or have never been on a stage. Teams are picked randomly and coached by supportive, experienced improvisers. The event starts at 7:30pm at Curious Comedy Theater (5225 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd). This event only scratches the surface of the many great events offered by Curious Comedy Theater. You can find more events by visiting here.
