Luke’s picks:

Friday, May 18 Camp Crush EP Release, The Cabin Project, AM Clouds at Alberta Street Pub

Luke says: “Camp Crush has an EP release this Friday, and they are sharing the stage with The Cabin Project! I’m looking forward to the new tunes from CC, and The Cabin Project is one of my favorite live acts in PDX.”

Camp Crush says, “Come celebrate with Camp Crush as we release our upcoming EP, She’s Got It! Joining us on stage are two of our favorites, The Cabin Project and AM Clouds (Bend)! $8 cover and we’ve got a few surprises up our sleeve!”

ABOUT CAMP CRUSH:
Do you remember the excitement of your first crush? The euphoria of your first kiss? The thrill of your high school prom? The excitement of new love that makes you want to dance in the streets? Camp Crush is the music that will send those feelings rushing back.

Perhaps it is because married duo, Jen Deale and Chris Spicer clearly have a crush on each other. Sparks fly between them both on and off stage, and together they have created the infectious, modern New Wave sound that is Camp Crush. Deale and Spicer draw inspiration from the synth innovation of the 80s, utilizing vintage thick synth patches, and integrating them into themes that are relevant today.

It’s that combination of epic sounds with the substantive nature of the lyrics that is unforgettable. As a songwriter, Deale seeks to uplift listeners, while providing real, emotional depth that tackles the emotional expectations placed on women. What’s left to do when the world seems to be closing in on all sides? Camp Crush has the answer. This EP is a feminist commentary that you can dance to

The Cabin Project, made up of four Portland-based women, is an indie rock band whose sound stems from haunting choruses, three-part harmonies, pedals, synths and string sections. The songs are musically expansive, yet retain an intimacy similar to that of The National, Warpaint and Bon Iver.

AM Clouds is a 4-piece indie rock band formed in Bend, Oregon in 2016. Two ex-Portlanders and two California transplants creating a classic indie rock sound that’s been compared to the Meat Puppets, Tom Petty, R.E.M, Neil Young, and Uncle Tupelo.
