PRP Team Concert Picks for the New Year! (1/4-1/10/2018)

Patrick’s Picks:

Friday, January 5 Pretty Gritty, Cascade Crescendo at Alberta Street Pub

Pretty Gritty plays Friday, Jan 5 at the Alberta Street Pub starting at 6 with the great local bluegrass band Cascade Crescendo, starting at 9.

Pretty Gritty is the serendipitous joining of the talents of Blaine Heinonen and Sarah Wolff, both from Montgomery County, MD. Although they originate from different rock bands, fate brought them together at local “open-mic” nights, where it became evident that they shared an interest in writing and performing songs that mix country, rock, blues, and soul. It’s said that she brings the “pretty” while he brings the “gritty,” combining for an engaging alt-country duo with seducing harmonies and addicting acoustics.

Cascade Crescendo, from Portland, Oregon, has been crafting their own brand of bluegrass since 2013. Pulling from their vast range of collective influences, they play original, high-energy bluegrass, jamgrass, and Americana music with captivating lead vocals by Hunter White, blazing fast mandolin licks by Aden Beck, and creative, thumping bass lines by Taylor Skiles. Duluth, MN banjo player, Harrison Olk joined the band in late 2015, bringing with him solid Scruggs-style banjo and high lonesome harmonies.

Cascade Crescendo recorded their first studio album in Spring 2016 at The Hallowed Halls in Portland, OR. The album features fiddle player, Allie Kral (Yonder Mountain String Band) on five tracks and a guest appearance by drummer Nick Werth (Yak Attack, Ghost-Note). Cascade Crescendo is gaining steam in 2017, quickly winning over fans across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. They performed on the lineup of the 2016 Northwest String Summit and are touring around the country in 2017 and beyond.
